Entered Trinity College Dublin on 5th July 1821; BA 1826, with one year additional divinity course. Went to the West Indies in 1827. At the end of that year was ordained Deacon, and in 1828 received Priests Orders at Bridgetown, Barbados. For some months Assistant Curate at St Johns, Antigua, now the Cathedral Church, and thence promoted to Incumbent of St Andrews & St Davids, Grenada 1828-29. In 1829 he was so seriously affected by fever that he was obliged to return to Ireland, his physicians advising him never again to tempt the dangers of a West Indian climate. Perpetual Curate of Clomantagh, Co Kilkenny (D.Ossory) from 1830-32. This parish was one of six in the union of Freshford, whose Glebe House in 1837 was at Clashacrow, so likely the same when Charles was there. This being the parish of Woodsgift it is likely that it was here he met his wife, whom he married in 1832. In the same year he was presented by Lord Anglesea to the Rectorship of the Kilcock and Cloncurry Union, Co Kildare. Lewis states there to have been no glebe house at Kilcock c1837, so the family may have lived elsewhere. Chaplain to the Earl of Charlemont in 1838 and 1839. In 1843 he exchanged this for the Rectorship of Creagh, Co Cork (D.Ross), and was installed there on 4th August. At that time the living was valued at £379. In 1858 he exchanged Creagh for the Archdeaconry of the Bahamas, to which he was instituted on 2nd February, returning to London in 1861 to be consecrated at Lambeth Palace as Bishop of Nassau on 24th November. Died on the island of New Providence during the yellow fever epidemic of 1862, along with three of his nieces who were living there with his family at the time. Grave and memorial tablet in Nassau Cathedral. Author of "The Fall of Babylon" pub 1839, and "Neglect of Apostolic Doctrine and Fellowship" pub 1843.
